There’s nothing quite like the feeling of stepping out for live music after a long hiatus. It’s been about three years since our last concert, but heading out to see The Pretty Reckless reminded us instantly of why we love it.

​And honestly? They put on an absolutely phenomenal show.

Taylor Momsen is an Absolute Rock Goddess

From the moment she stepped on stage, Taylor Momsen commanded the room. You hear it on the records, but seeing her live is another level entirely.

​Our last big concert experience was at a massive stadium where we spent half the night staring at the jumbotron just to see what was happening. This time around, even from our seats in the balcony, the view was incredible. We could actually see her facial expressions, her makeup, and all the raw emotion she puts into every line.

I didn’t manage to take too many photos, though. As great as our seats were, the stage lighting just couldn’t be captured on a phone camera, it completely failed to do justice to what our eyes were actually seeing live! The lights would just wash her out in photos.

So, I put the phone away and just took it all in.

​The Perfect Spot in the House

Finding the right spot at a rock show can be hit-or-miss, but the balcony turned out to be ideal. Most of the crowd around us were either in our age bracket or using disability aids, which made for a super welcoming, accessible, and comfortable vibe. No feeling out of place or out-of-touch. Just a room full of genuine music fans ready to enjoy a great night.

Even when we went through security, the guard at the door told me he noticed a hitch in my giddyup, and asked me if we needed the elevator and walked us over there.

​A Surprise Encore Moment

​As if the setlist wasn’t enough, Taylor dropped a huge surprise during the encore: they were actively filming a music video for their new song, “About You,” right then and there! Knowing that our crowd’s energy is going to be immortalized in a music video added such a cool, exclusive charge to the end of the night.

​Final Thoughts

I’m so glad we decided to go. Seeing a band with this much power in an intimate venue feels like catching lightning in a bottle, especially before TPR blows up even bigger than they already are.

It was the perfect return to live music. If you ever get the chance to catch them live, do not hesitate!

As for myself, I’m not sure I will ever fully recover from this experience.
